Where in the World is Mr. G?

Some shots taken by Mr. G and his little Canon.  I'm envious of his zoom abilities.
I think these are some awesome pictures.
We are celebrating his retirement this week.
Where in the world is Mr. G?

This pelican is not a statue.  It's real.
This peacock was on an island with some goats about 750 feet away!
Update:  Apparently this is the Goat Island I've often read about located @ Murrell's Inlet.
The above shot was caught with my Nikon.  Didn't have the zoom lens with us to get a close-up of the bird.

Goat Island @ Murrell's Inlet

Mr. G likes to catch those funny words.
You might be able to see a clue in this picture.
More awesome pictures to come.

Wordless Wednesday #50~ SC Roadside Flowers

Sorry for the belated Wordless Wednesday.  Been a little preoccupied with a celebration retirement trip.

I've always enJOYed the flowers that South Carolina plants along their interstates.  Don't know what these are called.  Reminds me of Red Clover but not the right color.

Embroidered Dress for Newborn ~ Brooklynn Dress

A new little dress for a new little girl in our family, Brooklynn.
Again, trying to make a dress small enough for a newborn baby, and am still guessing this will be big.
One good thing, warm weather is coming and she'll just grow into it?
The ruffles are on the back.

The embroidered font is called Frivolity  and can be found @ Sew Forum
as well as the tiny butterfly
The flower border was discovered via the Sew Forum where I found the EmbroideryRN and her web page and downloaded the 3-flower border.  Since that time, she has moved her files to a page where you can't view them but download them in bulk.  You'll find over 1400 free embroidery files!
I couldn't find the border for you, but I did find the single flower in the archive file 4 which can be downloaded @ https://sites.google.com/site/embroideryrndesignsinc/designs.  Once you download and open the file look for the file named Flower 1ST.  Note:  I use the PES files.
Instead of a bulky buttonhole, I hand stitched a loop for the button.
Maybe I should do a tutorial for how I hand stitched the loop?  Let me know if you're interested.

No Need Weed Killer

My backyard is of woodland nature.  In most part it has a base of moss.  Grass will grow in the few places where the sunlight strikes.  My best landscaping expert is Mother Nature.  I couldn't have chosen a more beautiful carpet of flowering plants. Wordless Wednesday #49~ Springing Wild Flowers showed you some macro shots of the flowers.  Now here is the scenic view.

Tried to weed, seed and mulch.  Erosion happens!

My backyard is full of medicine!
I have found out the cone like purple plant is "Purple Deadnettle".
According to the Healthly Home Gardening  site that helped me ID these plants,
the Purple Deadnettle has many medicinal purposes.  When you go to the site, look under general information for its many uses.

While we're at it, let's have a salad of Dandelion?  I've never tried it or Dandelion wine either.

Look close for the moss.  Yellow wild strawberry blooms.
Oh, and did I mention a yard full of moles?

Wordless Wednesday #49~ Springing Wild Flowers

From my backyard.

I thought the flower above was purple fetch, but I can't prove myself right with Internet pictures.
I still haven't come up with a name for the purple flower below that creates the beautiful carpet of green leaves all summer.  The purple flower closes at night.  Some flowers will have 3, 4 or 5 leaves.
I know some brilliant person out there knows the name of these wildflowers.
Update:  I have finally found a web page to help me identify the blue (2nd & last) flower.
It apparently is the "Common Blue Violet."

The purple flower in the 2 pictures above is the "Purple Deadnettle."

Outdoor Coffee Table- All Lit UP

Jokes have been made the last few days that you know it's finally spring in Kentucky, because folks are taking down their outdoor Christmas lights and decorations.  Well, I did take mine down in January after we celebrated our belated Christmas.  I have used Christmas white lights in more than one old light fixture.  Last week when we set up the deck furniture, I came up with this idea for a string of lights.
I strung them under the glass top of the coffee table.
They are plugged into a remote.

It makes a nice soft, non-glaring light.
Yes!  Christmas IS over.  Bring on SPRING!  Please!

Painted Lamp

Got a can of spray paint at Restore for a little job and had some left over.  I never was really crazy about my blue lamp, so I thought the dark paint would make it look a little more classic.  Not sure there is much difference.

Wordless Wednesday #48~ Springing Birds

From my backyard.  Actually most from my couch!

Using Mr. G's new little Power Shot SX260 HS 20X IS Canon Camera.  It zooms in much closer than my DSL Nikon and I don't have to constantly switch lenses or return the cap to the lens.  However, it's so small, it's hard for me to hold steady for the big zoom in pics.

Only a couple of these did I have to unsharp with Gimp.
